Piddy dwesses

It started when Amelia was around 2 1/2, and Ember has started it up even earlier. Picking out her own clothes and rejecting certain ones. Lately they only want to wear dresses. In a pinch, a skirt and top will do, but generally, it must be a dress. Especially ones made by Auntie Jen.

The current favourite dresses. For those of you who haven't met them, that's GG and Grandma Carol with us; both of whom are harder to capture on film than Bigfoot.

I'm fine with the dresses, my only rules are: 3 day maximum per dress and no dresses to bed. And if it's really cold or we go to the playground, they need to put on pants or shorts. We found out the hard way how difficult it is to climb on the playground with a dress on. Especially a dress held up with elastic around the top. Although we have the rules, they are often compromised when I don't feel like having a battle, such as wearing a light cotton summer dress with a long-sleeved shirt and tights. It's quite the fashion statement.

our favourite "dress up"dress

And if a pretty dress wasn't enough, they often have to put on a "dress up" dress over top of their regular dress. How did I end up with such girly-girls??

We have some particularly cute dresses that Auntie Jen made 2 years ago that now work as tunics to be worn with leggings. I just can't put them away yet! As far as I'm concerned Auntie Jen can make us as many dresses as possible, since they will all get worn! (was that a subtle enough hint?)

  1. Dresses with leggings and even pants underneath were super chic around here all winter. I also do the old dress as top trick. Sometimes it's easier to phase them out when you get all the wear you can get out of them.

For a while Miranda insisted on wearing the snow white dress that I picked up at playgroup for free over everything to do everything. Now she insisted that any clothes we get for her must be able to fit an animal disguise. The green polka dot khaki pants we picked up in Alberta were chosen for the polka dot iguana option.

Wait until they decide that you must, simply must do their hair in a certain way. Miranda insists regularly on peacock crown feathers, t-Rex tails, crocodile tail bumps and gazelle horns. Figuring out how to fix kitty ear headbands on her head so they won't come off is a whole other ball game.

The girls are looking adorable all gussied up

  2. Tami, your comments are hilarious! I am still trying to figure out how one would make peacock crown feathers or gazelle horns??? Do you use a lot of hair gel???
Having girls is so much fun and I love supporting their creativity. Who cares if they have crazy outfits (and my girls have had a few already) I look forward to more fun, like what you describe. It's cool how imaginative Miranda is. :)

  3. I have to laugh at myself. Here I was worried that my sewing might be a little crazy colored, but I shouldn't have worried. I'm glad the dresses are getting worn and that the girlier the better. And I really wish could get my hair to do what Mimi's is doing in that picture of her with the princess dress. I really need a haircut.

I'm planning to work on Ember's quilt this weekend along with making some grad cookies for the neice that graduates next week. The quilt I'm not worried about, but the cookie decorating is new and I fear I may have a steep learning curve. Must get me a blog so I can post the cakes and stuff rather than emailing them to you, as they are cool, but not THAT exciting

  4. Yay! Then Ember will have two quilts, since I'm hoping to finish the quilt I made for her (started before she was born and still haven't finished) She needs a bigger quilt too, since she's too big for the "baby" sized blankets - her legs stick out LOL

Good luck with the grad cookies!
